How a Hydronic Forced Air Furnace Works

The hydro-furnace burns gas to heat water, then transfers heat from the hot water into a forced airstream to heat your home.

Here’s a step by step breakdown and diagram of the process:

  1. Natural gas or liquid propane is used to heat water inside a sealed, stainless steel combustion heat exchanger located outside the airstream.
  2. The hot water is pumped through a hydronic heat exchanger coil, transferring heat from the water to the airstream.
  3. The heated air is circulated using a high efficiency blower through the ductwork, to evenly heat the home.
  4. The hydronic furnace continuously monitors air temperature, automatically adjusting burner operation, water and airflow to maximize comfort and efficiency.

Navien’s hydro furnace makes it easy to replace the conventional forced air heating system in your home or business:

● Comes in traditional furnace widths to match with exiting coils and ductwork

● Gas, electrical, condensate and control wiring can be installed on or brought through either the right or the left side of the cabinet to match that of the unit it is replacing.

● Works with most conventional single- or two-stage thermostats

● Is compatible with modern high-static air filtration systems

Provides independent airflow settings for air conditioning, heat pump and fan-on settings

● The unit mounted EZ-Nav interface walks the installing contractor through the correct set-up and configuration.
